Joint Ivy Alumni Night at SF Opera - “Omar”

Join an all-Ivy alumni curated night at the San Francisco Opera! Attendees will have the opportunity to reconnect with alumni and friends at the pre-performance social in the North Dress Circle.

Come to socialize and to learn more during the pre-opera talk about the new opera from Grammy award-winning artist Rhiannon Giddens and composer Michael Abels - Omar - the true story of a 19th century Islamic scholar from West Africa, enslaved in South Carolina, but finding identity and faith through the written word.

**PLEASE NOTE: In order to attend the pre-performance social, attendees must purchase a ticket to the evening's performance and comply with COVID safety guidelines described below. A special discount code is available for Ivy alumni.

Go to Joint Ivy Alumni Night at the SF Opera to register via Eventbrite and to purchase discounted tickets!

SCHEDULE

Doors open at 6 pm. Please enter building through the North Carriage Doors facing the courtyard side of the Opera House.

  • 6:00-7:15 pm: Pre-performance reception (located in the North Dress Circle)
  • 6:35-6:55 pm: Featured speaker discusses Rhiannon Giddens and Michael Abels' work
  • 7:15-7:30 pm: Attendees are seated before performance begins
  • 7:30 pm: Performance begins (there is no late seating)

TRANSPORTATION

The War Memorial Opera House is a short walk from the Civic Center BART and MUNI stations as well as the Van Ness MUNI station. Multiple parking options are available within walking distance to the War Memorial Opera House.

  • Performing Arts Garage: Enter at 360 Grove, between Franklin and Gough. 
  • Civic Center Plaza Garage: Entrance on McAllister between Polk and Larkin.
  • Opera Plaza Garage: Entrance on Golden Gate between Van Ness and Franklin.
  • UC Law SF Garage: Enter on Larkin, between McAllister and Golden Gate.

Proof of Covid-19 vaccination and masking is no longer required to attend San Francisco Opera performances in the War Memorial Opera House. While it is encouraged for patrons to wear a mask when attending a performance to protect themselves, San Francisco Opera will provide masks to any patron who wishes to wear one.
