Join Cornell NorCal for a morning of hands-on volunteering with Rape Trauma Services (RTS), an organization providing crisis intervention, advocacy, and support to survivors of sexual assault in San Mateo County.

RTS’s trained Sexual Assault Counselors accompany survivors at hospitals and provide support during other crisis-response situations. The organization also responds to human trafficking operations, helping individuals access immediate practical support, advocacy, and connections to services.

The RTS team will lead a brief educational session on sexual violence and the needs of survivors. We’ll learn about RTS’s crisis intervention and advocacy services, and how the supplies we assemble will help staff and trained advocates provide practical support tailored to each survivor’s needs and preferences.

Together, we’ll assemble and organize approximately 25–30 survivor-support and crisis-response kits containing essentials such as new socks, travel-size personal-care products, tissues, notebooks, pens, snacks, and water. These supplies give RTS staff and trained volunteer advocates practical resources to offer survivors during difficult or overwhelming experiences, helping address immediate needs and provide comfort.

Advocates will offer items according to each survivor’s individual needs and preferences. During the session, the RTS team will also share more about their work and how these supplies will support the people they serve.
