Jessica Brandi Lifland is a San Francisco-based photojournalist and documentary photographer with over 15 years of experience. Her work is represented by Polaris Images and appears nationally and internationally in publications including The New York Times, USA Today, The Toronto Star, Newsweek, Time, and Le Monde.
Jessica earned her BFA in Photography and BA in Art History from Cornell University in 1991 and her MA in Photojournalism from Ohio University in 2002. She was a staff photographer at the Contra Costa Newspapers and at the Evansville, Indiana Courier & Press prior to her freelance career. Her work takes her all over the United States and the world including most recently Senegal, West Africa with the non-profit Operation Smile, operationsmile.org. Lately she has been working on a project documenting the lives of the cowboy poets of the American West in affiliation with the Western Folklife Center, which she hopes to make into a book. She has won numerous awards and participates in exhibits around the country. She is an instructor of photojournalism at the City College of San Francisco, has taught photography at the University of Southern Indiana, San Francisco State University and with organizations and workshops including the Panasonic Digital Photo Academy and with Fotovision.org. She is the founder and director of San Francisco’s popular monthly Photonite.
Jessica is available for assignment domestically and internationally. In addition to her photojournalism and documentary photography, she is available for and enjoys wedding, portrait, corporate and event photography. She is available for private lessons upon request.

For Cornell Alumni, Jessica Brandi Lifland Photography can offer a discount of $50 off for a portrait photo session of $300 or more and $25 off the $250 photo session. Just mention that you are a member of the Northern California Cornell alumni community when booking to receive the discount. Offer good through December 2009. Package prices subject to change after December 2009. Below are the studio’s standard portrait packages although she can custom design a package just for you.
Portrait Session 2009 Packages
All sessions are done at a mutually agreed upon location
Jessica shoots in color but you always have the option for black and white prints when dealing with digital photography.
$250 Digital package:
2-3 hour sitting. Up to two people in the images.
You get:
• Online proofing and print ordering
• About 150-200 images on cd
$300 Digital package:
2-3 hour sitting. Up to four people in the images.
You get:
• Online proofing and print ordering
• About 150-200 images on cd
$350 Digital package:
2-3 hour sitting. More than four people in the images. (Up to 10 people)
we can custom design a package for larger groups on a case by case basis
You get:
• Online proofing and print ordering
• About 150-200 images on cd
Additional Options:
• Additional cds of Digital Negatives - full take of images in large format, no editing or enhancing $100
• Photoshop digital touchup and enhancing $75/hour.
These packages are pre-set but she is willing to work with you and custom design a package for you.
The sitting fees includes travel to San Francisco, Marin, Oakland, parts of Contra Costa and some of the South Peninsula. For travel outside this area please call for further information.
Other Details: $5.00 postage and handling fees for additional options ordered after initial order included in package print orders.
Payment $50 deposit due at time of booking. Balance due the day of the photo session.
Postponement or cancellation: 48 hours notice is required, otherwise deposit is forfeited.
Weather Conditions: All outdoor sessions are weather pending without penalty to subject. Call 2 hours prior to session for confirmation.
