We're back with another one of our favorite community service events - volunteering at Project Open Hand in San Francisco!

Project Open Hand is a nonprofit organization that provides meals with love to critically ill neighbors and seniors. Every day, Project Open Hand prepares 2,500 nutritious meals and provides 200 bags of healthy groceries to help sustain clients as they battle serious illnesses, isolation, or health challenges of aging.

Please arrive on time so we can start our shift at 9:00 am. We will be volunteering in either the Grocery Center or Kitchen. Grocery Center tasks may include sorting, bagging, culling food items, or stocking the Grocery Center shelves. Kitchen volunteers slice and dice whole food and help assemble meal packages. Families are welcome to volunteer! However please note that all volunteers must be 15 years or older.

Important Information

All volunteers must follow Project Open Hand's dress code:

  • Closed-toe shoes
  • Shirts with sleeves (no tank tops)
  • Full length pants (no shorts/capris/ skirts, etc.)
  • Hats are also welcomed for volunteers who prefer not to wear hairnets
For information regarding public transportation and parking options, visit Project Open Hand's website here. Please note that there is no parking lot on site.

Please contact Catherine Meng, '09 with any questions. Proceeds go toward our two Cornell scholarship funds. Learn more about them here.
