Nombe Restaurant (www.nombesf.com) is a new Izakaya (Japanese gastropub) opened in the Mission District by Gil
Payne (Cornell JGSM '96), his wife Mari, and executive chef Nick Balla. Like
many dining pubs and local joints throughout Japan, Nombe offers small
plates of traditional and contemporary Japanese cuisine, along with a 70+ brand sake menu put together by sake sommelier, Gil Payne. Gil
will be returning from a visit to several sake breweries throughout
Japan and will give a short talk on current trends in the sake world
and in Japanese restaurants and food.
You are invited to try any
of the four sakes that have been paired with dishes prepared by Chef
Nick Balla, a Chronicle Top 100 Restaurant winner! There will be other
sake experts on hand to explain the pairings and tell you more about
the sake breweries themselves!
This is sure to be an eye opening
evening to the world of sake and Izakaya, so please join us in SF's
Mission district at Nombe on March 2nd for the Cornell/Ivy Alumni Sake Tasting and Food Pairing event!
