On January 10,
2009, 25 Cornell alumni gathered at the San Francisco Food Bank to give back to
the community. As part of a
university-wide initiative for student-alumni, volunteers from over 17 U.S. cities
came together to tackle community service projects while connecting with fellow
Cornellians.
At the SF Food
Bank, the Bay Area alums spent two and a half hours packaging 1900 one pound
bags of brown rice—quite a feat! The
help from Cornellians comes at a time when food banks across the country are
being negatively affected by the worsening economy. While demand nationwide for services from
food banks is up 25 percent, donations are down drastically. Just in San
Francisco, the food bank’s supply of dry goods is down
15% from last year.
To help end
hunger in San Francisco,
please visit the food bank’s website to learn of the different ways you can

Thank you
again to the volunteers for all your hard work!
