From the President...
Dear Fellow Bay Area Alumni:
The Cornell Alumni Association of Northern California (CAANC) completed an historic 2007/08 year! Highlights of our accomplishments include:
- Hosting or co-hosting over 80 events across the Bay Area with nearly 2,000 alumni participating.
- Adding regional committees in the South Bay, North Bay, East Bay and San Francisco resulting in the dramatic proliferation of more local events.
- Launching a new website platform for http://www.cornellnorcal.com through Alumni Magnet that has helped us provide you with expanded networking opportunities (alumni directory, news page, and job board), improved event communication and registration, as well as numerous value-added services and benefits.
- Through CAAAN, interviewing over 500 Class of ’12 applicants and hosting three well-attended and inspiring recruiting events for prospective and admitted students resulting in an entering class of 90 students from the Bay Area.
- Improving alumni communication with a streamlined bi-weekly e-newsletter highlighting upcoming events and other notable and relevant CAANC topics.
- Contributing over $5,000 to our Traditions Fellow Scholarship funds thanks to a successful Sixth Annual Scholarship Dinner (November 2007) and San Jose Sharks event (February 2008).
- Nearly tripling CAANC memberships, which provide the financial support to fund the efforts of CAAAN, host events, and provide membership services each year.
I cannot adequately express my gratitude and appreciation to the Board and to the many CAANC volunteers that have contributed their time and effort, without which these accomplishments would not have been possible. As CAANC President, I am constantly humbled by the energy, vivacity, and strength of the Northern California Cornell community. It is not a secret that Cornellians share a very special bond embodied in a common and steadfast passion for our alma mater that has continued to amaze me and of which I am so very proud.
CAANC remains committed to a mission of “Any Alumni, Any Activity” (a phrase coined by our very own – and talented – Bay Area alumni, William Lin ‘89) and we hope you’ll join us in realizing this mission through your continued support and participation.
I look forward to continuing my journey as CAANC President this year and to toasting to many more CAANC accomplishments in 2008-09. As always, my door is always open for your suggestions and contributions.
In Big Red Spirit,
Heather Madland ‘99
President, CAANC
